Closet Basics – The Tee

If you missed the first closet basics post, check that one out here. It’s all about jeans and how to find the right fit and my go-to pairs. Today I wanted to do one all about basic tees. I have and love all of these here, so let’s get started.

1 – This v-neck is so soft and I especially love the sleeve length. It’s just a tad longer than a typical short sleeve which is actually very flattering. It is one of my favorite for layering under a blazer or something thicker on top because of how it flows with the body. It’s a favorite for sure and at that price it’s worth stocking up on.

2 – I tend to gravitate towards v-necks as you can see from this list but this tee is just too good I had to share it. It’s a cotton tee, so it’s more casual than the previous one, but I love it just as much. It’s also a great length, so it’s perfect for that front tuck or if you have a longer torso. The scoop neck is also the perfect dip without being too much. Such a great price too!

3 – The longest fit of the bunch is this tee. If you have a long torso or want something to layer with legging, this is the one. It’s casual and not too thin, which makes it perfect for year round.

4 – If you’re looking for a modest v-neck this one is so soft and cozy. It’s also the thickest material of the group too making it so great alone or layered. I have this one in several colors and love it.

5 – This tee is a similar fit to tee #3, minus the pocket. If you’re looking for a pocketless cotton v-neck this is the one you want. This brand makes some of the best basic tees IMO and this one is no exception.

Tips on How to Find the Perfect Basic Tee

– Find the best neckline for your body type. V-neck is the most flattering on me. A crew neck can make me look larger in the bust area. So, if you are smaller chested a crew neck might be best on you for visually “filling” up that area. On the other hand if you are larger chested a crew neck may appear to make you look top heavy. Here’s a quick breakdown. Crewnecks are best for small to medium busts and longer necks. Boatneck is best for small to medium busts and pear shaped bodies. Scoop neck is pretty universally flattering. V-neck is also universally flattering but especially good for petite women.

 – The material will create the vibe. A cotton tee is generally more casual. A blend is most likely going to be more flowy, perfect for that front tuck. Not that cotton can’t, but a thinner cotton is best for this look.

-Along with the material you want to check the fit. Sometimes going up a size is exactly what you need for that easy, effortless look. It is good to have more fitted tees and loose tees in your closet to reach for. The fitted tees are perfect under blazers and for a more streamline look. The looser is perfect for well just about everything else.

– To wash or not to wash, that is the question. Seriously, ALWAYS check the washing instructions before you buy. Some tees are worth the extra work, but not all, so keep that in mind. I have a few hang dry tees, but I love them so much I deal with it. BUT, for the most part I want to be able to wash and dry my basics. It’s just easier and less maintenance which is always preferred when talking about basics.

-Get them in all the basic colors too. You will want white, black and grey in all your favorite tees. Navy is also great to have. Trust me. I could reach for basic white every day but it is so good to have those other classic colors when you want something more than basic white. Once you find your favorites, snag them in all the colors. You will be glad you did.

That is it guys, my 5 favorite basic tees and my tips to find the perfect fit. Please let me know what closet basics you want to see next?!? Thanks for stopping by! XOXO

xoxoAmanda
